participate in Brookline Artists' Open Studios on
Saturday,
April 12,

Brookline
Artists' Open Studios is an annual springtime event, held in
locations all over Brookline since 1986. Artists working in all
media
participate by opening their homes and studios to the public.
This
year, for the first time, Brookline
Adult &
Community Education will be one of the stops on the tour.
Many of
the program’s talented arts and crafts teachers will showcase their
work on SATURDAY, APRIL 12 from 11am-6pm at Brookline High
School. We
invite you to come have a look at their wide variety of works and to
see what remarkably talented arts and crafts instructors we have on
staff. We hope that this year’s Open Studios entices you to try a
class
for yourself.

Martin R. Anderson is one of Boston's emerging
photographers working extensively with alternative ways of making
photographs. He has studied with pinhole artists Marian Roth and
Walter Crump and has constructed over 50 pinhole cameras of his own
design. He has taught pinhole and plastic camera workshops for several

Ann Barnard , artist, earned a B.F.A. in painting and art history
from Massachusetts College of Art and an M.F.A. in studio art from the University of Cincinnati
School of Design, Art, and Architecture Planning. She also studied at Maryland Institute College
of Art and the Guangzhou Academy of Art in Guangzhou, China. She has taught at art at
Bridgewater State College, freelanced in publishing design, and assisted on area public murals.
Ariana Berns, after getting a degree in design and
illustration from Massachusetts College of Art, has pursued her love of
art through freelance commissions and production for various community
events. She is skilled in a variety of mediums including
watercolor, ink, and oil, and is also interested in creating wearable art.
Marlena Bocian, a European artist, earned her
degree in art and business administration in Poland, and continues to
pursue her studies here in the U.S. between her own painting and other
work. She exhibits frequently in galleries on both continents,
showing recent works that emphasize science, math, and the women of these
worlds.
Robin Connors received an
associate's degree in graphic design, and a B.S. from the Chamberlayne
School of Design at Mount Ida College. A freelance designer and
calligrapher, she has taught art at many local centers.
Sara Crystal is a graduate of
Bennington College with a B.A. in anthropology and photography. She also attended
the Salt Institute of Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine, to experience
first-hand the process of the traditional photographic essay.
Besides her interests in photojournalism, Sara is interested in alternative
photographic processes, as well as photographic printing and its
relation to the fiber arts.
Marcia Deluty is a graduate of the School of the
Museum of Fine Arts. She has been working with metals since 1970,
and has sold and exhibited her work in galleries in California and
throughout New England. She currently teaches privately and in adult
education settings.
Michael Finnegan, has been acclaimed for his monotype
paintings, which debuted at the Boston Young Contemporaries Show,
Boston - 2007. Michael's mono-type technique is developed from
his master painting studies at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley
University. His print work has been reviewed by Cate McQuaid of
the Boston Globe: "Painter/printmaker Michael Finnegan calls his works
"oil-on-canvas monotypes. He uses paint, not ink, and prints on
canvas to create...deliciously textured scenes." Michael holds an
undergraduate degree in graphic design and illustration and a MFA in
visual arts. His other professional experiences include teaching

Barbara Fletcher has a background in commercial
art from Syracuse University. For the last 20 years she has been
working in the fiber/paper field. Her commissions and teaching
experience have been wide ranging and include creating fantasy
sculpture for writer Stephen King in Maine in the 1980's. More
recently her works have been placed in medical facilities around Boston, she was
awarded a Lowell Cultural Council Grant, and her works have been
featured in two books, The Complete Guide to Paper Casting
by Arnold Grummer and Papermaking for the First Time by

Karina Kadiyska earned a
bachelor's degree in painting and a master's degree in sculpture, both
from Boston University. She has also studied marble carving from
the local craftsmen of Carrara, Italy. Karina's work is in the permanent
collections at the New England School of Art and Design and the Carrara
Academy of Fine Arts.
Ming Lu received a master’s in
fine arts at Lusun Academy of Fine Arts, China. She taught in Lusun
Academy of Fine Art and worked as an editor for the art magazine ART
CENTER before coming to the United States. Ming gave lectures and
seminars in the American International College, Boston University, the
Art Institute of Boston and Milton Academy. Ming has had several solo
shows at Eclipse Gallery in Boston, as well as other shows in the U.S.
and China. She won the Honor Price at the annual American Professional
Artist League Exhibition in 2007. She is going to give a demonstration
of painting watercolor at Lexington Art Center in April 2008.
Marc Mancuso
studied ceramics at Louisiana State University, and is currently
pursuing a degree at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts,
Boston.
Gwen Ossenfort has been a photographer for over
30 years. She earned a B.F.A. at Emerson College and has also
studied at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, as well as The New
School in New York City. Her work has been shown all over New
England and she is currently the director of Brookline Artists' Open Studios.
George Pagliuca has been painting and illustrating for
over forty years.
After retiring from a long career in the printing industry, George returned to
the studio. He presently teaches workshops and small groups, concentrating on
painting and life drawing. George graduated from Vesper George School of Art
and his paintings and illustrations are regularly exhibited in Boston area shows
and art fairs.
Robin Radin received a B.F.A. in photography. She
also holds an M.F.A. from the Massachusetts College of Art. Robin has
exhibited her work nationally, including exhibitions at The Print Club
in Philadelphia, the Ashuah Irving Gallery, and The Institute of
Contemporary Art in Boston. In 2003 she was awarded the Mass
Cultural Council Artist in Photography grant.
Anthony Riccardi received a
B.F.A. in painting from Massachusetts College of Art. He has taught
drawing and painting at the North End Union, and currently teaches at
the Central Square Senior Center, Cambridge. Anthony has
exhibited his work at Massachusetts College of Art, the Boston Architectural Center,
the Gøethe Institute, and at the Oasis, Edges, and
Federal Reserve Galleries in Boston.
Bill Ryan has been teaching stained glass for 20
years. He learned the techniques while studying at Coran-Sholes
Stained Glass in South Boston, and later taught there. (The left is his
student's work.)
Vivienne Shalom is a visual artist, a graphic
designer, a children's book author, and a licensed art teacher.
She was a founding member of Gallery 1581 in Brookline where she shows her
work. In the last decade she has become quite involved in working
with individuals and families around issues that arise from adoption and
foster care.
Laura Evonne Steinman is a community teaching artist.
She received her B.F.A. in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design and her M.A. in
art education from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. For the last five years she has
been living and working in Warsaw, Poland sharing art making with folks of all ages. She enjoys
volunteering, sewing bags, coasters and other things. She loves to travel, learn about different
ways of life, and drinking herbal tea.

Carl West is co-owner of
Prospect Hill Forge in Waltham, Massachusetts, a unique place to learn
and practice the art of blacksmithing. Carl's goal is to awaken the
awareness that iron and steel are mutable in the hands of the common
person.
Cy Whittier is a graduate of the Art Institute of
Boston. Upon graduation, he began working as a freelance
illustrator/graphic designer for numerous advertising agencies and
publishing houses in the Boston area. In 1985, he returned to art
school to study charcoal and pastel drawing, and specialized in figure
drawing and portraiture. Currently, Cy is a professional artist
doing portrait commissions in charcoal and pastel, an active member of the
Newton Art Association, and is represented by the Francesca Anderson
Gallery in Lexington.
Geri Woodruff has been
entranced with the art of
mosaics for more than ten years and is the owner of GWMosaics.
Aside from this passion she studied oil painting at Museum of Fine Arts Art
School, and graphic arts at Massachusetts College of Art. She has
a B.A. in interior and architectural design from the International Fine
Arts College in Miami, Florida.
