Bringing Books to Life
For children ages 5 - 6
8:30 am - 12:30 pm
Lincoln School
One week programs ranging from classic stories to contemporary chronicles. Children's books are filled with details that we can bring to life through art, drama,
games, and exploration.
Hop-On-Pop Puppets and Plays July 19- July 23, $211
We will borrow charming characters from favorite classic and contemporary children's books and create their likeness in puppets and environments that we make ourselves.
Using our new props we will make up stories, sing songs, and re-invent the highlights and antics that have had the greatest appeal. It might be hard for us to decide
which we like more, the creating of a story or the telling of it.
Brown Bear, What Do You See July 2- July 9, or July 26- July 30, $211
Every action creates a reaction. After reading stories that emphasize discovery, we'll get busy with activities that will teach us what it feels like to be a scientist.
We will use our five senses to observe and explore. Young naturalists will enjoy using their pocket microscopes to study insects, and budding chemists will
love performing test tube experiments that involve mixing colors and bubbling concoctions.
American Girl Dolls July 2- July 9, $211
Spend your week in the life of the popular American Girl Dolls, learning about history and the challenges and excitement of living during times gone by.
Our focus will be on the dolls and their adventures, and we'll read several stories about the everyday challenges the girls faced. We'll also enjoy drawing
and painting activities, role-playing, and a tea party. Your American Girl Doll is welcome to join you.
Folktales from Everywhere July 26- July 30, $211
This week we'll read simple and entertaining stories that describe different worlds and everyday lives. We will travel through each tale, exploring new places
and collecting souvenirs along the way. We will learn songs and dances, and make art from various countries, regions, and climates. We will also learn how children
around the world work and have fun!
The Goofy Gourmet July 12- July 16, or July 19- July 23, $226
Storybooks are full of delicious sounding foods that make readers want to immediately whip up a plate of cookies, a sampling of sushi, or a batch of smoothies.
Each week we'll read books (a different selection each week) filled with tasty-looking foods that we will then try creating ourselves. We'll learn about ingredients,
how to measure and read recipes, and about kitchen rules and safety. We'll also decorate aprons, craft table settings, and sit down together to enjoy our yummy treats.
Look Alike, Creative Design July 12- July 16, $211
The more you look, the more you see. Some illustrators really know how to stretch their imagination when it comes to choosing and using materials. By mixing nature's
bounty with recycled materials from mom's sewing basket or the family junk drawer, we'll sharpen beginning thinkers into masters of creativity. We'll also experiment
with paint washes, pastels, collage materials, and cardboard to create large scale works and activity backdrops.
