Bringing Books to Life!
One week programs in JulyBooks
For children ages 5-6
8:30 am - 12:30 pm, Lincoln School
Kelley Cabral, Director
One week ($215) • Two weeks ($390)
Three weeks ($542) • Four weeks ($679)

From classic stories to contemporary chronicles, children's books are colorful and cheerful, and filled with fabulous details. In the following programs, for five and six year olds, we'll read exciting stories, and then discover how to bring them to life through art, drama, games, and exploration. Each day will include story and snack time, group projects, and in-and-outdoor activities.

Building Basics
July 1 - July 5
Using a wide range of materials, we will create a beautiful city. We will study urban plans, and read accounts of famous buildings, architects, and engineers to learn how cities grow. Using balsa wood, found objects, legos, pipe cleaners, and everyday objects we will build bridges, skyscrapers, marketplaces, parks, and schools. We will lay out a city plan, adding buildings, streets, landscaping, and other small details.

The Goofy Gourmet
July 1 - July 5
Storybooks are full of delicious-sounding foods that make readers want to immediately snack on a plate of monster cookies, a spoonful of jamberry, or sample raspberry smoothies. Each week we'll read books filled with tasty-looking foods that we will then make and enjoy ourselves. We’ll learn about ingredients, how to read recipes, and about kitchen tools and rules. We'll also decorate aprons and make our own recipe books. (A $10 per week food fee will be added to the tuition.)

Brown Bear, What Do You See
July 8 - July 12
Every action creates a reaction. After reading stories that emphasize discovery, we’ll get busy with activities that will teach us what it feels like to be a scientist. We will use our five senses to observe and explore. Young naturalists will enjoy using their pocket microscopes to study insects, and budding chemists will love performing experiments that involve mixing colors and bubbling concoctions.

Passport to the World
July 8 - July 12
Armchair travel with us as we read books filled with pictures, illustrations, and descriptions of children around the world playing, working, eating, and spending time with their families. While discussing our observations about each book, we’ll make crafty souvenirs, learn songs and dances, and stamp our passports with special seals. We will also locate the countries, regions, and climates we’ve visited on a globe.

Fairytales and Fables
July 15 - July 19
Fairytales and fables are captivating. Imagine yourself in a world filled with wise animals, knights in shining armor, and roaming dragons. We’ll read well-loved fairy tales, explore their messages, and compare their heroes. We’ll make crafts that relate to the stories, act out scenes, and produce our own fairy tale book to take home and share.

Look Alike, Creative Design
July 15 - July 19
The more you look, the more you see. Some illustrators really know how to stretch their imagination when it comes to choosing and using materials. We'll look at dynamic and exciting illustrators and use them as inspiration to create our own work. We’ll also experiment with paint washes, pastels, collage materials, and cardboard to create large scale works and activity backdrops.

Colorful Creatures
July 22 - July 26
We will look closely at well-known and imaginative animals from some of our favorite children’s book illustrators. We’ll take their ideas and craft our own colorful creatures through 2D and 3D projects using paint, paper, and glue. Our imaginations will guide us as we work individually and in teams.

Heroes and Heroines
July 22 - July 26
We will read tales of fictional heroes such as Superman, real life heroes like Rosa Parks, and community heroes like firefighters and nurses. Children will write their own hero tales and talk about what makes a hero. We will create our own superheroes, design their costumes, and illustrate their powers using paint, oil pastels, fabric, and clay.
