Instructor Highlights - Kathryn Deputat

Kathryn Deputat has worked for over two decades as a poet, writer, writing coach, and clarity consultant. An alumna of Wellesley College, she combines her interests and training in psychology, Zen Buddhism, metaphysics, and improvisation to facilitate clear direction and clear expression both on and off the page. Whether individually or in classes, groups, or workshops, Kathryn provides a context where safety, ease, and freedom prevail over vulnerability, effort, and constraint. She has a gift for "getting what's in there out" without interference, for setting one's true voice free.

In 2005, BA&CE honored Kathryn with the "Inspiration" award, and with these words:
It has been said that a gifted teacher is like a clear mirror in which the student sees only his or her own reflection. Kathryn Deputat has been holding up a brilliantly clear mirror to students here in Brookline for many years now. Through her writing classes, The Tao of Journaling, Start to Finish: A Revision Workshop, and Just Write: A Writing Practicum, and in her personal awareness course Be Clear Now, Kathryn has been able to draw forth creativity from within each of her students and has created supportive communities within the classroom. Her courses have consistently inspired students, and she has developed a steady following with many students returning to learn from her time and time again...Tonight, we are pleased to turn the mirror toward her, in recognition and appreciation for her bringing years of good teaching, good will, and her positive spirit to us.

Kathryn attributes her success as a teacher, writer, and photographer--as an intuitive witness and guide--as well as her founding of Claritywork and Love's Freeway to the practice of "listening and following." Most recently, as a direct result of this practice, she launched www.lovesfreeway.comand subsequently published Love's Way: Reflections and Practices which interlace her writing and photographic works. Of these creations, she writes: Love, the Life force itself, is a master of free expression. Witness the magnificence of the natural world. Countless evidences of Its perfection surround us at every moment. When we forget we too are that free, magnificent, perfect, they are there to remind us. On Love's Freeway...we remember how well Love knows Its way, and how well It does by us when we let It have it.

Since the birth of Love's Freeway, her work has attracted an International audience, reaching such places as France, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Finland, Israel, and Ireland.
