The Current State of the Honeybee (Sec. 01) Course Code: J402-01 Instructor: Vaas Meeting Days: Thursday Date: 10/7/10 Meetings: 1 Time: 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM Price: $6 Location: Brookline High School Limited to: 50 attendees Or call 617-730-2700 to register BY PHONE! The honeybee is an amazing insect. Indeed, this social insect is so linked to human life that the recent, catastrophic demise of hives due to invasive mites and the mysterious colony collapse disorder has rattled big business, politicians, and governments worldwide. Researchers around the globe have been probing possible causes of the plight and, as you can imagine, there has been a lot of finger pointing. Could there be a new pathogen? Has widespread use of pesticides and other chemicals caused the epidemic? What about microwave towers that might be interrupting honeybee navigation systems? On this evening, a journalist who keeps her finger on the pulse of the beekeeping world, will discuss current bee news, and will explore the fascinating world of the honeybee, and the subcultures of people who are mud-wrestling over the fate of this crucial species. Please note: Some courses may have an additional materials fee payable to the instructor that is not included in the total fee. Please contact the school for details. Please be sure to read our Refund, Transfer, and Withdrawal policy before registering for a class. A $6 registration fee is charged once per person per semester.
