Michelle Abadia, fluent in English, French, and Spanish, is a native of Puerto Rico. She received master's degrees in French literature from Tufts University, and in vocal performance from the New England Conservatory. Michelle has served as a Spanish interpreter for the Massachusetts judicial system, and is currently a visiting lecturer at Framingham State College. There's more information about Michelle here.

Robert Aguilera is a graduate of the Boston University School of Hospitality, and honed his skills at The Seasonal Table, followed by six years as General Manager and cheese buyer at Formaggio Kitchen. He is currently general manager of operations at Farmstead in Providence, RI, focusing on American and New England products. Robert has taught numerous cheese pairing classes for adult education programs and for private events. Angela Alessandria is the owner of Flower Arrangements, and the director of the Garden Club of Belmont. She has been working with fresh and silk flowers for over 25 years, and has served as the judge for numerous flower shows, including the 1999 Art in Bloom exhibition at the M.F.A.

Judy Alland received her B.A. from Brandeis University and her M.P.A. from Northeastern University and has professional experience in writing, editing, and planning. She has done extensive genealogical research and is working on a narrative family history with pictures, maps, and supplemental historic information retrieved from various online and other sources. Judy is a member of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston.

Yavuz Alparslan, native of Turkey, received a B.A. in business management from De Montfort University in England, and an M.B.A. in international business from Johnson & Wales University. Yavuz has taught Turkish grammar, E.S.L., business writing, statistics, marketing, and basic accounting.

Hiroko Amara is from Osaka Japan, and studied sociology at Hokkaido University and and trained as Japanese teacher at Japanese Education Teachers Society in London. She was a translator for Showa Boston, and currently teaches at the Japanese Language School of Greater Boston and The Japan Society of Boston.

Don Anderson has been working with college strategies since 1990. Prior to joining College Funding Advisors, Don worked as an analyst and computer systems manager for various international businesses and manufacturing firms. He now lectures extensively throughout the greater Boston area on his experience and insights in the financial aid system and enjoys guiding families through the college financial process.

Martin R. Anderson, is one of Boston's emerging photographers working extensively with alternative ways of making photographs. He has studied with pinhole artists Marian Roth and Walter Crump and has constructed over 50 pinhole cameras of his own design. He has taught pinhole and plastic camera workshops for several years. Jeffrey Appelstein is a certified financial planner, vice president, and financial advisor with the private client group of Merrill Lynch in Peabody. He has over ten years of experience in the financial services industry, and has been providing educational seminars and courses for the past eight years. Jeff holds a certificate in financial planning from Merrimack College.

Elizabeth Appleby received a B.S. from Tufts University. In addition to teaching E.S.L. in California and the Boston area, Elizabeth is an actor, performer, and acting coach.

David Aronson learned his bridge at an early age playing with his mother's bridge group. He played a lot in college, and then went to work and other activities and didn't play for many years.ÊHe came back to bridge about 10 years ago and has become an accomplished player, and teacher. He enjoys teaching bridge and has taught beginners and advanced beginners in classes and in private sessions.

Michael Atwell, owner and principal of J. May Home Inspections, has conducted more than eighteen hundred home inspections. Licensed as a home inspector and a construction supervisor in MA, Michael is vice president of the Board of the New England Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors. Michael has a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Santo J. Aurelio received his doctorate in education from Boston University, and bachelor's and master's degrees from Harvard University. A former court reporter, he has taught English grammar, composition, medical terminology, legal terminology, E.S.L., court reporting, and art history at colleges in the Boston area. Dr. Aurelio has written extensively on English grammar, vocabulary development, Black English, sexist language, word etymology, adult basic education, classical art, Jewish and Italian immigration, and mnemonics.

Lenore Balliro is the editor of a quarterly publication for teachers. Her poetry, feature articles, and reviews have been published in literary journals and magazines. She met her sweetheart of five years on an internet dating service and has enjoyed helping several friends create or modify their profiles.

Marie E. Bankuti, P.M.P., is a life/success coach, trainer, and consultant with over 27 years experience in information technology, management, and coaching and training in retail, banking, manufacturing, financial, non-profit, and state government. She is a certified project management professional and has an extensive background in project management and business analysis. George Bardis is the wine director at Martignetti Liquors in Brighton. He has been studying food and wine for many years, and has previously taught wine courses at the Boston and Cambridge adult education centers. Julie Barsam-Cummings is a practicing licensed acupuncturist and board certified herbalist (NCCAOM) at Plum Blossom Acupuncture Clinic in Cambridge. Yael Bat-Shimon has played the violin since she was five years old. She studied in Paris, at the Peabody Institute of Music, and at the New England Conservatory. At NEC she also pursued graduate studies in the Contemporary Improvisation Department. She has created/improvised music for many performance art and dance projects, including most recently for Andrea Cheatham Dance, Kelley Donovan and Dancers and E. Beattie Dance Project, all to sold out, enthusiastic audiences. She is also founder and artistic director of the interdisciplinary improvisational performance group Inter Alia. She holds a B.A. in literature from Harvard University and a M.A. in Jewish studies from Hebrew College.

Sorel Faith Berman, earned an M.A. in English and American literature at the Bread Loaf School of English in Middlebury, Vermont, and a certificate of advanced study at Harvard's Graduate School of Education. She has been a teacher of English in the Brookline Public Schools since 1964.

Ariana Berns, after getting a degree in design and illustration from Massachusetts College of Art, has pursued her love of art through freelance commissions and production for various community events. C.M. Brown has been a yoga practitioner since 1974 and practiced Zen meditation since 1982. He has been teaching since 1996 when he received his certification to teach Hatha Yoga and Pranayama from Swami Ramananda at the Integral Yoga Institute in New York City. Neal Carney is a first level U.S.F.A. certified fencing coach. Kim Childs is a writer, musician, and award-winning public radio journalist who left the news media in 1999 to live and train at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Vincent Chu has been teaching tai chi chuan at his father's Gin Soon Tai Chi Club in Boston for many years. His father, Gin Soon Chu, is the second disciple of Grand Master Yang San Chuan, whose ancestors developed the Yang style of tai chi chuan.

Anna Chuyeva, native of Ukraine, is a graduate of Boston University. She has always had a special interest in Russian and other Slavic languages, literature and culture. Anna is a former member of Russian classic ballet and folk dance groups, and currently teaches computer basics for seniors.

Don Clark (a.k.a. DC), was introduced to the magic of music as a small child, through his Los Angeles church. As a teen, he began playing the guitar and saxophone. Several years later, landed a place in the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. DC joined a local cover band in the late 90s and broadened his interest in music from Jazz and Gospel to include Rock, Hip-Hop, and Alternative. During his years of performing, DC also found another niche in teaching. He has shared his love of music with others in the Cambridge public school system, a Norwood private school, a Brookline summer music program and various private lessons.

Kacy Clopton has a bachelor of music from the School of Music at the University of Maryland and is working toward her master of music at the New England Conservatory. Kacy is a passionate and extremely active chamber musician. She has performed at the Hillwood and Kreeger Museums, the German Embassy, the Hungarian Embassy, Jordan Hall, the Millennium Stage and the Terrace Theatre at the Kennedy Center, and in the Hall of Musical Instruments in the Smithsonian Institute. Michele Cloutier's passion has been dance since the age of five. For years she has participated in regional competitions and shows and still enjoys performing. Ben Cohen is a certified Kripalu yoga teacher who has been teaching in the Boston area for the past 12 years. Neil Conte (Construction) holds a B.S. in engineering, and is the president of Conte Construction Company, Ltd. Aniello has been involved in all aspects of construction and repair ever since he was so young he had to hold a hammer in both hands. His professional work ranges from institutional and industrial work to residential construction.

Maria Conte, bilingual in Italian and English, received degrees in education from Diploma Magistrale Istituto Mater Divinae Gratiae in Italy, and New England Montessori Teachers' Education Center. Currently, she is an instructor at other area adult education programs where she teaches Italian language, culture, travel, and cooking. Maria is also an Italian language tutor and teaches private lessons for adults and children. Before moving to the United States, Maria enjoyed cooking in her family-owned restaurant in Italy.

Carmela Covino received a B.A. in language arts from UMass, Boston. She studied at the Istituto Magistrale Giuseppina Guacci, Benevento, Italy and received the Diploma di Abilitazione Magistrale. Carmela has taught Italian to adults in Brookline, Needham, Westwood, and Norwood.

Lianne Crossette, is an accomplished learning and organizational development professional and career coach. Lianne has worked in the financial services industy for 18 years helping leaders at all levels identify career goals, create development plans and advance in their chosen fields. Taxia Cullen is a personal chef, cooking instructor, and caterer. Her passion for delicious food began early in life; she began cooking and reading cookbooks at the age of eight and now has over 800 cookbooks in her culinary library. John Curran has worked in the importing/exporting field for over a decade. Currently the international sales manager for Pilot Air Freight, John has extensive experience teaching exporting to businesses and entrepreneurs.

Christine Curtis is a graduate of the International School of Protocol and a certified etiquette consultant. She earned her master's in education from Boston University. She also owns her own private practice in Brookline in which she teaches children and young adults etiquette.

Liane Curtis holds a Ph.D. in musicology and is a resident scholar at the Women's Studies Research Center at Brandeis University. She is also the founder and president of two non-profit organizations that work on behalf of women composers. A former Fulbright Scholar, Liane has taught at wide range of colleges and universities, including Wellesley, Ohio State, and Brandeis. In 2000, she collaborated with the Boston Women's Heritage Trail to have the name of composer Amy Beach added to the 87 names of male composers that adorn the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade. The unveiling of Beach's name took place with a performance by the Boston Pops Orchestra that included music by Beach.

Ron Dantowitz is director of the Clay Center Observatory at the Dexter and Southfield Schools in Brookline. He has worked for NASA, the Charles Hayden Planetarium, and directed the Gilliland Observatory at the Boston Museum of Science. He holds a B.S. in aeronautical engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Geoffrey Day is the owner and president of the Consulting Exchange in Cambridge. In addition to starting several of his own businesses, he has advised small businesses for many years. Geoffrey holds a B.A. in human ecology from Connecticut College.

Laura Days has been a full-time associate of Laurie Israel's Brookline firm since s 2005, and works in the fields of real estate and estate planning.

John De Vito holds a BA in visual studies from Harvard University. He works at the Boston Public Library. His illustrations for the column Oscar Divas, which he collaborates on with film critic Betsy Sherman, appears in Big Reel.

Lisa DeGennaro holds a B.S. in marketing and German from Boston College. She spent her childhood years in Germany, and has studied the language and culture for over 13 years. In addition, she has attended several language institutes in Germany, and worked for the well-known German firm Bosch GmbH.

Martine Della Ventura, native of France, received a degree in restaurant management in Bordeaux. When Martine is not working on menu planning and wine lists for restaurants, she is a substitute teacher for Brookline Public Schools.

Marcia Deluty is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. She has been working with metals since 1970, and has sold and exhibited her work in galleries in California and throughout New England. She currently teaches privately and in adult education settings.

Kathryn Deputat, is a clarity consultant, writing coach and writer who has facilitated clear direction and clear expression in lives and in writing--in the Boston area and beyond--for more than 15 years. A distinguished alumna of Wellesley College and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Kathryn is founding owner of Claritywork.com. Despina Dimitropoulos was born in Kalamata, Greece. She received a B.S. in chemistry from University of Massachusetts, and an M.S. from Northeastern University. She has taught Greek as a second language to elementary school students, as well as to adults and college students.

Anne DiNoto has been baking since she was a young girl, and enjoys cooking and baking, trying new recipes, and reading lots of cookbooks. She has a B.S. in marketing and was previously a restaurant general manager.

Erin Dionne is a fiction writer, editor, and journalist teaching at Montserrat College of Art, in Beverly. Her articles have appeared in the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, The HornBook Magazine, and the MetroWest Daily News, and her fiction in Slow Trains and Velle magazines. Caroline Dlugy-Hegwer was the owner of a knit shop in Northern California and taught a wide range of classes for adults and children. Currently, she teaches knitting and crochet at Windsor Button Shop in downtown Boston. Caroline received a B.A. in English, and an M.A. in American studies from the Sorbonne University, and a graduate degree in American Studies from Smith College.

Monique Dlugy was born in Paris and currently leads a French conversation group at the French Library, Alliance Francaise in Boston. Monique enjoys sharing her knowlege of French culture and language with others.

James Doherty, a certified general auto mechanic, has more than 20 years of experience teaching auto mechanics. Both his bachelor's and master's degrees are in industrial education.

Sean Doherty holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and an M.A. in education from Boston State College. Sean has studied drafting at Massachusetts College of Art, and AutoCAD at Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Anne Donahue is a certified aerobics instructor with a background in dance. She has been teaching throughout New York City and the greater Boston area.

Claudine Donikian holds a master's in French from New York University, which she completed at NYU's Center in Paris. She has studied at Université de Paris at Nanterre and at the Nouvelle Sorbonne, as well as at the Université de Strasbourg. She lived in France for three years, had francophone grandparents, and speaks French with a near-native accent. Claudine is also an adjunct professor of French at Fisher College. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University and holds both a J.D. and an M.B.A. from Boston College. Claudine provides private French lessons to individuals and groups.

Lauren Doolan earned her MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, her B.A. in writing, literature, and publishing from Emerson College. She has worked as a teaching assistant at SUNY and has had works of fiction and poetry published by Ibbetson Street Press and Spectrum Magazine.

Ken Dumas is a group leader and member of WalkBoston, the first and foremost pedestrian advocacy organization in the country, formed in 1990 to raise public awareness about the benefits of walking for transportation, health, recreation, and vital communities.

Jill Ebbott is a holistic health counselor who specializes in helping clients achieve wellness through the wise use and preparation of nutrient-dense foods, as well as herbs and supplements. She's a graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, affiliated with Columbia University, and is certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Karina Kadiyska earned a bachelor's degree in painting and a master's degree in sculpture, both from Boston University. She has also studied marble carving from the local craftsmen of Carrara, Italy. Lauren Klatsky is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York and holds a professional certificate from the Kripalu School of Ayurveda. She also holds a B.S. from M.I.T. and a master's in physics from U.C.L.A.. Diana Larsen has been practicing yoga for more than fifteen years. She has been through an extensive teacher training program and has taught both for groups and for individuals.

Quen Law a former K-5 teacher, received her master's degree in education from UMass Boston. Mark Leighton, manager of Marty's Fine Wines and Gourmet Food in Newton, has traveled to many of the wine-producing regions of the world. A student of the grape for more than 20 years, Mark was the wine writer for The New Bedford Standard Times, and currently writes Marty's newsletters and conducts wine-tastings throughout the Boston area. Mark is also a classical guitarist performing with Copley Chamber Players, and teaches music at Colby College.

Avinoam Lerner is a holistic therapist and certified hypnotherapist specializing in personal-development. Avinoam studies began in the Far-East in 1992, learning various healing practices and systems of thought which laid the foundation for his Holistic approach. Loretta Levitz, a rehabilitation specialist, studied yoga and nutrition with a wide variety of teachers including Dr. Vasant Lad of Poona, India, the director of the Tarachand Ayurvedic Hospital. Osnat Levy is a long time teacher and an avid rock climbing enthusiast. Her teaching career has included teaching, developing curriculum, instructing teachers, writing a manual, and creating enrichment possibilities. She enjoys her rock climbing students especially.

Krishna Lewis received her Ph.D. in comparative literature and literary theory at the University of Pennsylvania. Her areas of interest include early American, South Asian, African American, and Caribbean literatures, as well as women's and ethnic studies. Naomi Lomba-Gomes recieved her M.L.A. in creative writing and culture from Boston University, she and her B.A., Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. She has taught memoir writing workshops at the Boston Public Library and has been published frequently.

Ellen London is a freelance food writer and graduate of Boston University's Culinary Arts Program where she studied under the likes of, Michael Leviton, Jacques Pepin, and Mary Ann Esposito. Ellen also holds a B.A. in journalism from Temple University.

Mia Louik holds a M.A. in guidance & counseling from Teacher's College, Columbia University. For the past 20 years she's been a consultant, designing and delivering management, supervisory, and professional development training workshops in a variety of different companies in the Greater Boston area. In addition, she teaches organizational behavior in a certificate M.B.A. program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Mia is a parent of a B.H.S. graduate who is now in college.

Jonathan Lovenstein studied composition, piano, and recorder at Ohio Universtiy in Athens, Ohio, where he received a degree in musicology. He studied recorder with John Tyson and received his master's degree in performance of early music from New England Conservatory. Renee Man CVRT, COMS, has worked at the Perkins School for the Blind in Outreach Services to Elders for the last six years. Marc Mancuso a professional sculptor and potter, has been working in ceramics and in other mediums for the past 20 years, the last 8 of which have included teaching at BA&CE and at M.I.T. He also teaches at the Brookline Arts Center. Mark has exhibited at local, regional, and international levels, and won "Best In Show" at the 2007 "State of Clay" juried exhibition in Lexington, MA.

Fumiko Masubuchi holds the rank of master teacher of the Sogetsu School, one of the major flower arrangement schools in Japan. She is the director of the Massachusetts Branch of the Sogetsu School. Fumiko is also a former president of the Boston Chapter of Ikebana International. For over 30 years, she has lived in the Boston area and taught Ikebana. She has lectured at the New England Flower Show and for Art in Bloom at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Evalyn Mehta found her love for yoga while using it to relieve stress from a corporate job. She is certified in viniyoga and is completing her 500 hour teaching certification with Shiva Rea. Marilyn Monteiro earned a B.A in political science from the University of Massachusetts, a M.A in education, and an Ed.D. in educational administration and social policy analysis from Harvard University. She has served as an administrator and adjunct assistant professor in higher education teaching undergraduate and graduate courses for over 20 years. She has also served as administrator and taught adult learners in adult literacy programs. She has also served as state coordinator of the Massachusetts Institute for New Teachers, a teacher-training program funded by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

Roseanne Montillo holds a M.F.A. degree in creative writing from Emerson College as well as a B.F.A. degree in writing, literature, and publishing, also from Emerson. Selma Newburgh , realtor, M.B.A., architect, brings extensive experience in real estate, including design, construction, development, management and marketing. She has been practicing architecture and urban planning since 1964 and she has been a realtor since 1995. She holds the degrees of master in architecture, MIT; master in city and regional planning, MIT; and master in business administration, Harvard Business School. Erica Nielsen is a writer, researcher, and dance ethnologist. She studied anthropology at Macalester College in Minnesota, and has conducted fieldwork in the U.S., France, and Bulgaria. She taught dance cultural studies courses for two years at Arizona State University, where she earned an M.F.A. in dance and wrote a chapter for the book Balkan Dance by Anthony Shay. While teaching at ASU, Erica developed an interest in teaching methodologies and the development of new learning tools. She is an advocate of online and hybrid learning, and intends to create dynamic e-learning solutions for the world of dance education.

Rezakkah Norins, a professional massage therapist, has been in practice for 18 years. In the eighties, she was trained as an exercise teacher for Women's World gyms, and then integrated massage concepts with exercise techniques, and later added techniques from Feldenkrais, Alexander work, contact improvisation, plus her own techniques. Rezakkah often includes these self-care techniques as part of her regular massage session. She has taught stress management and various kinds of massage in different settings, such as a Body Dialogues series.

Jaclyn O'Riley is an active member of the local Irish dance community. She has spent a great deal of time dancing in Ireland, and has taken workshops with dance masters throughout Ireland and the U.S. Jackie performs throughout the Boston area and her dance style emphasizes the interconnection between different styles of Irish dance, understanding the relationship between the music and the dancer, and the strong community aspect of the tradition.

Barry O'Toole is a certified aerobic instructor and personal trainer. He is also a musician and composer, and hosts a local television show called How to be Healthy....and Still Have a Life. In his private training practice, he uses a multifaceted fitness and nutritional approach, enabling clients to become self sufficient at losing weight and becoming fit. He often incorporates music and performance, visualization, and humor to motivate people to exercise.

Louise Olafsson has been an exercise instructor since 1984, and is certified to teach by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (A.F.A.A.). She holds a bachelor's degree in nutrition, a master's in public health, and does private nutrition counseling when she is not busy taking care of her four girls. Louise has been teaching exercise classes for BA&CE since 1986.

Karen Oldoni is certified to teach English by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She has worked for over a decade in the Boston area as an editor for business consulting firms. Karen graduated from Colgate University with a degree in English and political science.

Andrew Osborne received a B.A. in English from Harvard University. After graduating he became a screenwriter for the Motion Picture Corporation of America, where he co-wrote the HBO Original Movies Soldier Boyz and Behind Enemy Lines. He directed Apocalypse Bop, an independent feature that premiered at the Coolidge Corner Theater and was hired to write the film Dramarama for Warner Bros. Carol L. Padden is an educator, web designer, and photographer. She has taught workshops for kids and adults at a variety of institutions, including: the Museum of Science, Mass Audubon, and the University of Rhode Islands W. Alton Jones field site. George Pagliuca has been painting and illustrating for over forty years. After retiring from a long career in the printing industry, George returned to the studio. He presently teaches workshops and small groups, concentrating on painting and life drawing. Eun Young Park is from Seoul, Korea and graduated from Yonsei University with two bachelors degrees in clothing and textiles and food and nutrition, and received her master's in TESOL at Boston University. Eun Young currently teaches at the Boston Korean School.

Jeannette Passanisi graduated from Emerson College with her master's in marketing and advertising and from Franklin Pierce College with a B.A. in commercial computer art. After working in the computer industry for 10 years she now spends her time as a computer educator for R&R Consulting and other establishments of learning. Jeannette enjoys teaching and working with others to help them meet their goals to obtain the necessary skills to further better themselves.

Teresa "Tracy" Pereira is a personal chef, cooking instructor, and caterer, with Southeast Asian cuisine in her blood. A lawyer in Malaysia until marriage brought her to Boston a few years ago, Tracy graduated from Boston University's culinary arts program in 2006 and launched her own business, The Seasoned Palate (www.seasonedpalatechef.com). With Malaysia's multi-racial mix of Malay, Chinese, and Indian culinary traditions, she is adding spice and diversity to Boston's array of personal chef offerings. Bob Phinney is the science and technology director at the Clay Center and Dexter and Southfield Schools in Brookline where he has been teaching for 26 years. Robin Radin received a B.F.A. in photography. She also holds an M.F.A. from the Massachusetts College of Art. Van Zimmerman is a critical theorist, writer, and producer in various media who works as a web project manager for a Cambridge-based company.

Ernest Zupancic has 40 years of experience working with the grant process, mostly as a Federal government employee, but also as a consultant writing grant proposals and advising grant recipients on how to apply for and manage grants. He presently works for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development where he has presented grantwriting workshops for non-profit organizations.
